It starts with a probe of client needs and preferences; proceeds to absorb the look of your house and the lay of the land; locates magnetic north to determine the effect of sun and winds; notes what lies underfoot and along property's edge; then combines an artistic eye with environmental sensitivity to come up with a sustainable landscape, requiring lower maintenance and reduced use of water, fertilizer, and pesticides.

While visual elements may reign supreme, the aim is to stimulate all of the senses... providing habitats for birds and butterflies for the "chatter" and animation they bring to the garden; using water and ornamental grasses for their soothing sound effects; and selecting a variety of plants for their distinct fragrances.

Great importance is also placed on multi-seasonal interest, striking color combinations, uniqueness and surprise, with special consideration given to the role of plants in creating pleasing outdoor spaces.
